Celebrating Women's History at Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent

Throughout March, students took part in our design competition to mark Women’s History Month. They were asked to come up with a poster or factfile about a female figure who has inspired them. We were blown away by the quality of the entries, with students choosing a hugely diverse range of fantastic female role models. We are proud to display a number of the entries on the Academy’s main street.

Our runners up were Rosie in Year 9, who chose Bessie Coleman, Ada Lovelace and Marie Stopes for her factfile poster, and Fabbrino, also Year 9, who submitted a fantastic drawing of Amelia Earhart.

Our overall winner was Shyo in Year 10, who put together a beautifully designed fact-filled poster about Maya Angelou. Shyo herself is a poet, having won second place in the Gareth Jones Award for Excellence competition last year.

The winning students all received a copy of “Normal Women” by Phillippa Gregory, and we hope that they will discover more inspirational figures throughout the course of their reading.

It was brilliant to shine a light on Women's History throughout March. Read more about some of our events to mark the occasion below:
