Academy Votes for ‘Top Stokie’ in Centenary Celebration

As part of our celebrations for Stoke’s Centenary, the whole Academy took part in a special vote to decide our very own ‘Top Stokie’—a fun and meaningful way to honour the city's rich history and local pride.

In the lead-up to the vote, tutor groups researched a wide range of influential figures from Stoke-on-Trent, including Arnold Machin, Reginald Mitchell, Slash, and many more. Each group created eye-catching poster campaigns displayed around the Academy, encouraging students and staff to consider each nominee’s contribution to the city and beyond.

On the day of the vote, our Co-op Young Leaders took charge of running the polling stations and guiding students through the process. Over 800 votes were cast—an incredible turnout—and in a surprising twist, the final result saw a draw for first place!

🏆 Joint 1st: Sir Stanley Matthews & Robbie Williams
🥉 3rd Place: Slash

Ms Williamson, Assistant Headteacher, commented:
"This event was a brilliant example of democracy in action—one of our core British Values. It also reflected the Co-op Way of Being ‘Do what matters most’, as students thoughtfully considered who best represented the spirit of Stoke. We’re proud to see our young people engaging in civic life while celebrating the heritage of our city."

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and made the event such a success. It’s clear that the spirit of Stoke lives on in our Academy.
