Year 11 Sports Students Gain Career Insights at Etihad Stadium

Our Year 11 Sports students recently undertook an educational visit to the Etihad Stadium, the home of Manchester City F.C., to support their OCR qualification. The purpose of the trip was to provide tangible, real-world context on the pivotal role of media in sports, a key component of their studies.

The visit successfully supported the school's careers programme, specifically addressing Benchmark 4: Linking curriculum learning to careers. By exploring the operational aspects of a major professional club, the students were able to connect their academic learning to a variety of potential career pathways within the sports industry. Observing the infrastructure and learning about the media's influence illuminated non-playing roles such as Sports Journalism, Media Relations, and Digital Content Creation, thereby broadening their appreciation for careers beyond athletic performance.

Mrs. Chilton, who planned the trip, remarked on the visit's success: "Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed their recent trip to Manchester City F.C. They gained valuable insights into the daily life of a professional footballer and the impact of media on sports, both of which are highly relevant to their coursework. The post-tour pizza was also a big hit after all the walking!"

The students conducted themselves admirably throughout the day. Following the educational tour, the visit concluded with a group lunch at an Italian restaurant, providing a formal close to an enriching and valuable day of practical learning.
