Year 10 Scholars Visit Trinity College, Cambridge
Our group of twelve ambitious Year 10 Scholars recently enjoyed an incredibly rewarding visit to the prestigious Trinity College, Cambridge. The day proved to be a fantastic source of inspiration and learning about top-tier higher education opportunities.
A highlight of the day was a brilliant tour of the college led by a current first-year student. While the day saw some torrential rain, the challenging weather certainly did not dampen the students' enthusiasm. Hearing directly from someone currently experiencing university life offered invaluable, real-world insight into the undergraduate experience, including the structure of the college and the wider Cambridge environment. Following the tour, the students participated in dedicated information and Q&A sessions. These focused on providing a deeper understanding of university life and the application process, offering practical advice on selecting the best A-Level options to support their future academic ambitions, and answering all their pressing questions honestly.
Two moments really stood out as highlights of the day. The scholars were awe-struck by the Wren Library. They were able to view significant historical documents, including manuscripts related to famous college alumni such as Sir Isaac Newton and the creator of Winnie-the-Pooh, A.A. Milne. Secondly, the students enjoyed their midday meal in the magnificent Dining Hall. With its soaring ceilings and long wooden tables, the hall immediately brought to mind the iconic setting of the Harry Potter films—definitely adding an extra layer of magic to their experience.
The timing of the visit was perfect, as our Year 10 Scholars are just about to begin their Higher Project Qualification (HPQ). They gained extremely useful information and advice about planning and executing their projects, leaving them feeling motivated and genuinely inspired for the challenge ahead.
Ms Williamson, Assistant Headteacher, commented on the success of the day: "It was wonderful to see our students so engaged and asking such thoughtful questions. The visit has undoubtedly provided them with a clear vision of what can be achieved through hard work and academic commitment. We look forward to seeing some of them become future Trinity students!"
A huge thank you must go to the Trinity College Outreach Team for hosting us and providing such a comprehensive and inspiring day.
