Celebrating Our Identity: A Vibrant Culture Day at the Academy

What an incredible day we had for our recent Culture Day! It was fantastic to see the Academy transformed into a sea of colour as students and staff arrived in vibrant outfits representing their unique backgrounds and identities. From traditional national dress and religious garments to favourite football shirts and outfits representing Pride, the variety on display was a brilliant reflection of who we are.
Throughout the day, students took part in a range of creative activities. Many designed their own personal flags to represent their heritage, while others helped decorate a massive Co-op flag with positive messages about the importance of diversity. These activities were a perfect way to celebrate the British Value of Mutual Respect and Tolerance, showing how much we value every individual’s story.
One of the most popular spots was the Henna station, but the real showstopper was the huge food marketplace. Our Co-op Young Leaders (CYLs) did a fantastic job running the stalls, where we served food and drink from different continents entirely free of charge. There were some real highlights, including the Puff Puff and Supermalt on the Africa stall which were huge hits, though it is fair to say we weren’t quite so sure about the Vegemite over at the Oceania table!
Assistant Headteacher, Ms. Williamson, was delighted with how the day brought everyone together:
"Culture Day has been a true highlight of the year. Seeing our students express themselves so confidently and learn about each other's heritage with such curiosity and respect was wonderful. It’s days like this that bring our commitment to British Values to life, particularly the way we celebrate our differences while standing together as one community."
The day was a powerful reminder of how lucky we are to be part of such a diverse and welcoming school. A massive thank you to our CYLs and all the staff who helped make it happen!
