An Unforgettable Journey: Year 10 Students Visit Kenya

Three of our Year 10 students, Kaelynn, Iwo, and Amelia, spent their Easter break embarking on the trip of a lifetime to Kenya. This incredible opportunity was made possible through African Adventures and our association with the Port Vale Foundation, joining together with students from other local schools for a truly life-changing experience.

The journey began long before they boarded the plane. In the lead up to the trip, the students worked on various fundraising activities both independently and alongside the rest of the Valiants in Kenya team. Their dedication was a perfect example of our Co-op Way of Being, specifically showing what it means to Do What Matters Most by committing to a cause that helps others.

While in Kenya, the group spent their time volunteering at a local primary school, where they truly threw themselves into the experience. They stepped up to help lead classroom lessons and organised energetic sports activities for the children. Beyond the classroom, they worked hard to improve the school facilities, rollng up their sleeves to paint classrooms and brighten the learning environment.

This hands-on work was a fantastic way to Succeed Together as they collaborated with volunteers from across the city to make a tangible, positive impact. After their hard work at the school, they also enjoyed a safari day to witness the stunning wildlife firsthand.

Jorgie from Port Vale, who organised and led the trip, was full of praise for the group:

We are so proud of the students from initially signing up for the trip to returning back at Port Vale on Monday. The friendships that have grown, the skills learnt and memories made have been humbling to see and be a part of.

This trip was a shining example of our students living out their values on a global scale. We are incredibly proud of Kaelynn, Iwo, and Amelia for their commitment.
