Teamwork and Sunshine for Year 9 DofE Practice Expedition

This week, our Year 9 students took a big step toward completing their Bronze DofE Award by taking part in their one-day practice expedition at Greenway Bank Country Park. It was a brilliant day for it, with the sun out and the students showing exactly why they are such a credit to the Academy.

Throughout the hike, the groups demonstrated fantastic teamwork, navigating the routes and supporting each other when the walking got a bit tough. It was a perfect example of our Co-op Ways of Being, specifically showing how we Succeed Together as they worked in their teams to ensure everyone made it to the finish line with a smile.

We worked alongside the team from PAU, who were full of praise for our students. They were particularly impressed by the positive attitudes and the polite, focused way the groups conducted themselves throughout the day. It has certainly set a high bar for the qualifying expedition coming up soon.

Miss James, our Electives Co-ordinator and DofE Lead, was delighted with the day:

The students were absolutely amazing. Their energy and positive attitudes made the whole day a success, and it was great to see them getting stuck into the navigation and outdoor skills. I am really looking forward to seeing them tackle the qualifying expedition.

Ms Williamson, Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development, added:

These experiences are so important for building resilience and character. Seeing our students step out of their comfort zones and work as a team exemplifies our aim of Succeeding Together. DofE is such a transformative experience for so many students, and we're thrilled that it is so popular and successfully undertaken at Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent, and that we're able to offer it free of charge to any student who wishes to participate.

As a reminder, we are committed to making sure every student can access these opportunities. That is why we offer the Bronze DofE Award totally free of charge to our students. We also provide all the necessary kit, including footwear and bags, to anyone who wants to take part because we do not want any barriers in the way of our students achieving this award.

Well done to everyone involved.
