Fundraising and Competition Winning: Two Headteacher's Achievement Awards in one day

Mr Richardson gave away two Headteacher’s Achievement Awards today, with our students’ fantastic accomplishments making it too hard to decide on just one.
In the highlight of the week for our Headteacher, he got the chance to sit down with Reece (Year 9) and Charlie (Year 8), to speak to them about their amazing achievements.
Reece recently raised over £500 by climbing Mount Snowdon during the Easter holidays. His achievement is particularly notable as he has decided to donate the money raised to our students who are going on the upcoming visit to Tokyo as part of the Turing Scheme. The trip is entirely paid for except for lunches, and Reece didn’t want anyone to feel financially stretched by the trip or worrying about paying for lunches. We are so thankful for his generosity and looking forward to sampling some Japanese cuisine!
One of a group of our students who is taking part in the First Story Young Writers programme, Charlie recently won their national 100-word story competition, with the judges commenting:
This story was brilliantly crafted, delivering that short, sharp jolt of surprise that makes a short story really excellent – a feat that is especially hard to achieve in so few words. Wonderful.
In addition to the award from Mr Richardson, he will also receive a Vintage book bundle, notebook, certificate, and a framed copy of his story. The First Story Young Writers Programme pairs students with a progressional author, with whom they work over the course of the year to work towards an anthology. We are looking forward to receiving our book launch in July. You can read Charlie's story on First Story's website at the link below:
This wasn’t Charlie’s first experience of writing success. Having taken part in The Scholars’ Programme run by The Brilliant Club last year, he was chosen to have his work published in their academic journal.
At Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent, we are delighted to be able to encourage and reward our students both in and out of the classroom, and we are so proud of both Reece and Charlie for these fantastic achievements.
