Ballet at the Royal Opera House

Last week, our Year 8 and 10 Scholars travelled to London to visit the Royal Opera House for a performance of the classic ballet Giselle. For many of our students, this was a new experience, and it was fascinating to observe their reactions as they arrived at such an iconic venue.
The production was truly impressive. The athleticism, the artistry, and the scale of the performance left a lasting impression on the entire group. Of course, no trip to the theatre would be complete without an ice cream during the interval, which was enjoyed by everyone. After the show, we took the opportunity to walk along the Embankment in the spring sunshine. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon, taking in the views of the River Thames and the London Eye while discussing the performance. As with the majority of our trips, this experience was fully funded by the Academy to ensure that all our students can access high-quality cultural opportunities.
Ms. Williamson, who accompanied the students, said: "It was a privilege to watch our Scholars experience such a world-class production. Seeing them transition from initial curiosity to genuine awe by the end of the show was a highlight. These experiences are about much more than just a day out; they are about broadening horizons and showing our students that spaces like the Royal Opera House are accessible to them."
The Scholars’ Programme is designed to stretch and challenge our most ambitious students, providing opportunities that reach beyond the standard curriculum. Through a mix of academic enrichment, cultural visits, and guest lectures, the programme aims to develop the critical thinking and cultural capital necessary for them to excel in their future academic and professional lives.
