Brilliant Club Graduation

On Thursday 14th May, a group of Year 7 & Year 10 students attended Manchester University for their Brilliant Club Graduation ceremony.

Brilliant Club comprised a series of university level workshops and activities, led by a PhD student. Year 7 studied Economics and Year 10 completed a multi-disciplinary project in geography; economics and science, looking at the impacts of recycling. To graduate from the programme, the students’ final task was to independently research and produce a 2,000 word academic essay on their study topic.

At their graduation, students learnt more about how to apply the transferable skills gained from the course across their current and future studies; heard about life in higher education from current students at the University of Manchester and joined a tour of the campus, visiting some of the areas where they could be studying in years to come.

During the certificate presentation, Year 7 student Metab represented the group exceptionally, giving a short speech about how interesting and academically challenging they’d found the programme; acknowledging the new skills they have all developed and thanking everyone from the programme and the Academy who supported the students.

We are incredibly proud of the determination, resilience and focus shown by the students as they worked through university-level tasks to ensure their graduation from the Brilliant Club.
