New Voices of the Potteries: Our Students are Officially Published!

Just before we broke up for Easter, we had the brilliant news that six of our students were successful in getting their 100-word stories included in The Places That Make Us anthology. This is a massive achievement, and we are so proud to say that they are now officially published writers!

It feels very fitting that this happened during the Stoke-on-Trent Centenary. These students are effectively starting the next 100 years of Potteries authors, carrying on the long literary tradition of our city.

To celebrate, the group headed over to Keele University on Wednesday 25th March for the launch of the anthology and the "100 Books in 100 Years" results show. It was a fantastic afternoon held in the Westminster Theatre, where the students were presented with their own copies of the book and some extra goodies by the Stoke-on-Trent Centenary Champion, Councillor Lyn Sharpe.

There is something incredibly powerful about seeing your own words printed in a professional anthology. It moves the work beyond the four walls of the classroom and gives these students a real voice within our local community. Having their stories bound in a physical book that celebrates our city’s history is a milestone they should be very proud of.

Ms Williamson, Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development, said:

I am so incredibly proud of our students for becoming published writers. Seeing them develop the character and bravery to share their stories with a wider audience is what makes these opportunities so special.

A massive well done to our six published authors. We are definitely looking at the future of Stoke-on-Trent’s creative talent!
