Year 7s Attend University of Birmingham Christmas Lectures

Our Year 7 students recently spent an inspiring day at the University of Birmingham, stepping away from their usual timetables to experience the energy of a major university campus. As a member of the prestigious Russell Group, the university offered a wonderful setting for our pupils to look ahead and imagine where their own hard work might take them. Throughout the visit, our students were fantastic ambassadors for Co-op Academy Stoke, showing a level of maturity and enthusiasm that was a real credit to our school community.

The day was centred around two interactive lectures that brought academic subjects to life with a festive twist. The first, Medicine and Healthcare: Santa’s Perilous Journey, looked at the physical challenges of a trip around the world, using science to explain how the human body reacts to extreme conditions. This was followed by a Social Science session, Festive Forces for Good: Social Work for Young Change Makers, which challenged students to think about the impact they can have on the world around them and how social work helps build stronger, kinder communities.

Ms. Williamson, our Assistant Headteacher, spoke about how much these experiences mean for the students' future. "Visiting a world-class Russell Group university like Birmingham is such a powerful way to spark curiosity and ambition in our Year 7s. We are incredibly proud of how well they represented the Academy, and I am certain that in a few years’ time, we will be seeing many of these same students applying to study at such prestigious institutions." It was a memorable day that we hope will stay with our Year 7s as they continue their journey through the Academy.
