Mrs Berry
Assistant Headteacher
I began my teaching journey in 2008 at an inner-city school in Greater Manchester, which gave me a solid grounding in school life and the realities of the classroom. From the start, I knew education was the profession for me—and I’ve never looked back. Alongside teaching Business, I quickly took on additional roles such as Literacy and Key Skills Leader, and led on Curriculum Design & implementation for the department. I then moved to a Catholic school in Chester in 2009, which deeply shaped my values and gave me a profound appreciation for the importance of spirituality, care, and compassion in education. During my time there, I taught both GCSE and A Level Business and led on careers provision, including creating a ‘Careers Passport’ for every child to support their future pathways.
Following this, in 2014 I became Head of Business, Economics, Computing and IT at an outstanding sixth form college in Cheshire. There, I led the faculty from underperformance to becoming one of the highest-achieving A Level faculties in the North West. This period cemented my expertise in curriculum leadership, exam success, and evidence-informed teaching and learning—skills I continue to prioritise. My journey into senior leadership began here, with the completion of the NPQSL and through working closely with the senior leadership team to drive performance up across the college.
Before joining Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent, I worked in a highly successful school and sixth form in Cheshire West as Head of Business and Economics again from 2020, as well as taking on the role of Associate Assistant Head in 2023, leading on Staff Development and Wellbeing. By this point, I was an experienced and skilled middle leader with a proven formula for faculty and subject success in my second middle leadership post. I moved results up immediately, with GCSE and A Level Business consistently ranking within the top five subjects across the school annually for student outcomes and results. It was a rewarding time, during which we saw strong performance and a positive shift in staff culture.
I am delighted to have joined Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent in the summer of 2025 in what truly feels like my dream role. I am passionate about raising attainment and driving high-quality teaching and learning across the school. I am relentless in my approach and committed to supporting the young people of Stoke-on-Trent to thrive—working alongside a team of fantastic, dedicated leaders and colleagues. My philosophy is simple: education is a right for all. It changes lives and strengthens society and communities for everyone. With the right skills, experience, and mindset, we can all—at Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent—deliver outstanding lessons that empower every child to achieve their potential and beyond.
